Situated on the gentle slopes at the base of the Wither Hills, Witherlea is one of Marlborough’s most desirable residential suburbs. Older homes feature established gardens and mature trees, providing an air of privacy and substance, while newer subdivisions offer comfort and convenience. The area boasts numerous green spaces and playgrounds, making it an ideal area for families. The elevated position allows opportunity for great views over the Blenheim township as well as out to the Richmond Ranges.
Witherlea is a popular area in part due to the excellent reputation of the local primary school which caters for new entrants through to year 6 students within the school zone. It is also serviced by a local shopping centre that includes a hair salon, fast food outlet, after school and holiday child care centre, and a yoga studio. Also within the area is Marlborough’s Wairau Hospital, which includes such facilities as the A&E department, surgical and maternity services. Hospice Marlborough, an after-hours GP service, and the state-of-the-art private hospital, Churchill Trust, are also on the site. Wairau Hospital underwent an approximately $40 million overhaul which was completed in 2011, and is considered an important asset to the region.
The area is on the boundary of Marlborough’s iconic Wither Hills Farm Park. The 1,100 hectares of working sheep and cattle farm includes extensive public walkways as well as a mountain bike park, making it one of Marlborough’s most popular recreation areas. Harling Park is also in the Witherlea zone. This is a Japanese themed garden that includes picnic areas and sports grounds.
