History: Bryan Greensill followed his brother Maling, who owned land in Ohingaroa, Mahau Sound, will working with his brother he meet his wife Winfred and looked to purchase land. What better place than next door, so around 1890 Bryan purchased the flats and the farm that is now known as Bryndale was established. The property was cleared of bush for sheep and beef farming and the new family built the original homestead which was a small hut with veranda tucked into a gully with no sea views in around 1902. As the family expand and the original small home was outgrown, it was decided to expand the home and at the same time move it to its current site to take advantage of the views, shelter and proximity to the water, being sea was the main form of transport at the time, around 1920.
